Wootdesk vs Freshchat: AI without a session counter

Freshchat has a free tier for up to 10 agents and paid plans at US$19, US$49 and US$79 per agent per month billed annually, with WhatsApp included from Growth. Freddy AI gives 500 sessions, then charges US$49 per 100, and the Copilot is US$29 per agent on Pro and Enterprise.

Wootdesk bills per seat from about US$28 a month for two seats, with WootAI included and no session meter. Choose Freshchat if you want a free tier with ten agents or already run Freshworks. Choose Wootdesk if you would rather not watch an AI counter.

A 3-agent team handling 2,000 conversations a month

  • Three agents on annual billing, Freshchat's cheaper rate.
  • AI involved in roughly 1,000 sessions a month.
  • A session is any unique end-user interaction with the AI within a 24-hour window.

Wootdesk

US$50 (≈ R$269)

Prata plan, 4 seats, WootAI included with no session cap

Charged in BRL. The USD figure is an estimate at R$5.40/US$1.

Freshchat

~US$302

Growth at US$19 × 3 = US$57, plus 500 chargeable AI sessions at US$49/100 = US$245

The first 500 sessions are included. Copilot would add US$29 per agent on Pro or Enterprise.

The seat price is genuinely low — US$19 an agent is cheaper than most of this category. The AI meter is where the total moves, and it moves with customer volume rather than with your team.

What a session is, and why it matters

Freshworks defines a Freddy session as any unique interaction between an end user and an AI agent within a 24-hour window. Five hundred are included on Growth, Pro and Enterprise; beyond that it is US$49 per 100.

That works out to roughly 49 cents per session, and the counter runs on your customers' behaviour rather than your own. A busy month is an expensive month, and the metric that drives it is not one your support manager controls.

WootAI is included in the Wootdesk plan without a session counter. It is narrower in ambition — drafting replies from your help centre content and assisting agents rather than resolving autonomously — and the price does not move with usage.

The free tier, which is genuinely useful

Freshchat's free plan covers up to ten agents with a chat widget, shared inbox, email and roles. For a team getting started with no budget, that is a real offer and Wootdesk has nothing equivalent — seven days of trial and then payment.

The catch is what the free tier omits: WhatsApp starts at Growth. So a WhatsApp-led team is not really the audience for the free plan, which suits a website-chat operation better.

Two Freshworks products, one decision

Freshworks sells Freshdesk for ticketing and Freshchat for messaging, and teams routinely end up wondering which they need. Broadly: email-driven support with SLAs points at Freshdesk, messaging-driven support points at Freshchat.

Wootdesk does not split the two. WhatsApp, Instagram, email and live chat land in one inbox with one price, which is simpler when your volume genuinely mixes channels and less capable when you need the depth of a dedicated ticketing system.

Per-agent versus bundled seats

At US$19 an agent, three Freshchat agents cost US$57 a month — cheaper per head than Wootdesk's bundled plans at that size. Ten agents is US$190, which is still competitive.

The comparison flips once AI enters. Wootdesk's plans include WootAI and the voice channel in the seat price, so a team that leans on AI pays a flat rate, while on Freshchat the same usage is a separate meter plus a per-agent copilot charge on Pro and Enterprise.

When Freshchat is the better choice

These are honest reasons to pick them:

  • You need a free tier with up to ten agents to start, which Wootdesk does not offer.
  • Your per-agent budget is tight and AI usage will be light, where US$19 an agent is hard to beat.
  • You already run Freshworks products and want shared billing, SSO and admin.
  • You need Google Business Messages or LINE, which Freshchat lists and Wootdesk does not support.
  • Website chat is your dominant channel rather than WhatsApp.

Moving from Freshchat to Wootdesk

Messaging platforms migrate more cleanly than ticketing systems. The main work is the WhatsApp number.

  1. 1. Export contacts and properties

Pull contacts with their custom properties and segments. Segment definitions do not transfer as objects, but the underlying attributes do, and that is what you rebuild from.

  2. 2. Save the content Freddy was trained on

Your FAQ and help articles are what any AI drafts from. Exporting them means WootAI starts with the same knowledge rather than from nothing.

  3. 3. List the bots and journeys in active use

Check which flows actually fired in the last three months. Rebuild those, not the library of experiments around them.

  4. 4. Rebuild routing in the trial

Seven days, no card. Recreate assignment rules, business hours, canned replies and labels while Freshchat still handles live traffic.

  5. 5. Move the WhatsApp number out of hours

It connects to one Business Solution Provider at a time, so there is a short window with nothing flowing while it disconnects on one side and connects on the other.

Frequently asked questions

How much does Freshchat cost?
There is a free plan for up to ten agents, then Growth at US$19, Pro at US$49 and Enterprise at US$79 per agent per month billed annually, according to the official pricing page in August 2026. WhatsApp is included from Growth upward.
What counts as a Freddy AI session?
Freshworks counts any unique interaction between an end user and an AI agent within a 24-hour window. Growth, Pro and Enterprise include the first 500 sessions per month, and additional sessions cost US$49 per 100.
Does the Freshchat free plan include WhatsApp?
No. WhatsApp appears from the Growth plan upward, alongside SMS, LINE and Google Business Messages. The free tier covers the chat widget, shared inbox and email for up to ten agents.
Is WootAI limited in the same way?
No. WootAI is included in every Wootdesk plan with no session counter and no per-agent copilot charge. It is narrower than Freddy in scope, assisting agents and drafting from your help centre rather than resolving autonomously.
Freshchat or Freshdesk for WhatsApp?
Freshchat, of the two. It is Freshworks' conversational product and lists WhatsApp among its channels from the Growth plan, while Freshdesk is the ticketing product built around email and forms.
Which is cheaper for a team of three?
On seats alone, Freshchat at about US$57 a month against Wootdesk's US$50 for four seats — very close. With a thousand AI sessions in the month, the Freshchat total in our scenario reaches roughly US$302 while Wootdesk stays at US$50.
Can I keep my WhatsApp number?
Yes. The number belongs to your business, not the platform. It connects to one Business Solution Provider at a time, so migrating means disconnecting on one side and connecting on the other, with a short gap best scheduled out of hours.
